Theft Crimes Criminal Defense in Lynnwood

Visit our website dedicated exclusively to Washington Theft Crimes!

In the state of Washington, the severity of a theft charge depends on the type and value of the items allegedly stolen. Regardless of the severity of the charge, it is imperative that you hire a Lynnwood criminal defense lawyer, as a conviction can entail extended jail time, fines, community service and restitution.

There are three degrees of theft (First Degree, Second Degree and Third Degree) and each is charged differently:

  • Third Degree Theft occurs when the value of the items stolen is less than $750 and the theft does not include a motor vehicle or a firearm. This is a gross misdemeanor and is punishable by up to one year and jail and up to $5,000 in fines or both.
  • Second Degree Theft includes theft of items above $750, but not more than $5,000 and excludes motor vehicles or firearms. This level of theft is charged as a Class C Felony and is punishable up 5 years in jail and up to $10,000 in fines or both.
  • First Degree theft is the most serious and covers theft over $5,000 and includes penalties of up to 10 years in jail and up to $20,000 in fines or both. Again, this excludes motor vehicles or firearms.
  • If a person is found guilty of theft of a motor vehicle or a firearm they will be charged with a Class B Felony no matter the value of the items stolen.

In order to form the best defense, your case should be evaluated by a criminal defense attorney without delay.  Don't risk your freedom when it comes to choosing the right criminal defense lawyer.
