Tamara McElyea Your Relentless Legal Advocate

Tammy McElyeaTamara McElyea

Tammy McElyea has become a distinguished criminal lawyer and has earned a reputation of being a highly-skilled and fearless litigator among peers in the defense community and prosecutors. She has been practicing law since 2009, with the past eight years as a prosecutor and now as a criminal defense attorney. Tammy has handled thousands of misdemeanor cases, with a special interest in domestic violence.

Tammy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education and Performance from Southwest Missouri State, a Certificate in Music Therapy from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a Juris Doctor from Thomas Cooley School of Law in Michigan. She began her legal career in the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office. During this time, Tammy continued to dedicate her free time to the Domestic Violence community where she has earned accolades from the community and her colleagues over the last twenty years.

Upon graduating law school, Tammy returned home, to the Pacific Northwest, where she passed the Washington State Bar. She started her career as a prosecutor in Snohomish County and King County Prosecutor’s Offices, where she honed her skills as a trial attorney. She went on to spend the last seven years as a prosecutor with the City of Kirkland Prosecutor’s Office. There Tammy focused on domestic violence prosecution and was assigned as lead prosecutor on the Hope Stevens domestic violence case which she argued to the Washington State Supreme Court. As a prosecutor, Tammy developed the unique ability to read a case from the defense perspective and look for solutions outside of the criminal justice system. This led Tammy into private defense practice expanding her experience to include felony and civil protection order representation.

Tammy has a personal interest in animal welfare and environmental concerns. She lives with her rescued miniature schnauzer, Sam, and retired off the track Thoroughbred, El Nino Rial.
