How Do I Beat a Trespassing Charge?

If you get charged with trespassing in Washington State, there are a bunch of different ways you can beat that trespassing charge. The most common one is to contact the landowner or the building owner and say, "Hey are you still mad about this? Did you suffer any damages from my client?" If they say, "No", or "Yes, around $100." Sometimes we can pay them what they're owed, and then they can sign some paperwork that lets us ask the court to dismiss your case under something called compromise of a misdemeanor. Another way we can beat the charge is to say, "Hey, we thought it was okay for us to be here. If we didn't know, we weren't supposed to be on this land because there's no signs, well how can we be trespassing?" Finally, the third way we try to beat a criminal trespassing charge is just to point out to the prosecutor that we didn't mean any harm. We didn't mean any harm, we did eventually leave, and perhaps the charge is a little too aggressive for the situation.
